inspiration

For my inspiration, I used many magazines, the main ones where aimed for men and for teenagers, such magazines were Zoo and Nuts, and also other magazines like ONM. These magazines nearly all had the same style, in your face pictures, and short snappy lines to get the attention of the reader.

ONM


This magazine is ONM, I found that it has emphasis on the new Nintendo Dsi console, it also is the first thing that you notice when looking at the magazine. It also has three, big and bold snappy comments that tell you what is inside. This was a good thing to copy as it will help to make my magazine readable just by front cover. It also has a big title at its masthead, this is also a good thing to copy as when it is on the shelf it will be the first thing to catch the attention of the eye.


ZOO



This magazine, although advertising to a different audience, also has a similar style as ONM. The large title on top in block capitals, the large picture of a happy, overpowering character and a short sentence to tell you what’s inside are easily found on the front cover. Though these techniques tend to be common, they are effective and useful. The word sex on the cover is also effective as it is something that is happening all the time and appeals to everyone in the working class and teenagers, which is useful as these are the people that tend to be in college.

There aren’t many more magazines that are different to the two above; most have the main picture and headlines of what is going to be in the magazine. So with this in mind I followed the basic guidelines, and used about 90% of the magazine population as my inspiration, using a large picture, the small punch lines to reel in the catch. I also followed a very basic rule that is used on almost every successful magazine and that was to give away a free item, but I made it more technological for teenagers as its what they like, and that was a music download from the internet.
